Ernest Anthony Booton, 84, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Spanish Oaks Retreat. He was a native of Tullamore, Ireland and immigrated to the United States at the age of 16. He lived in Augusta for many years before moving to Savannah. He retired after 30 years of service in the United States Army as a Command Sgt. Major. During his time in the Army he served tours in World War II, Korea and Vietnam where he was decorated with two purple hearts and two bronze stars with oak leaf clusters for valor. He was a former member of St. Mary’s-on-the-Hill Catholic Church in Augusta and attended St. James Catholic Church in Savannah. He was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Booton was a member of the Retired Military Golf Association at the Forrest Hills Golf Club in Augusta.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Deaton Booton.

He is survived by his son Patrick LaVerne Booton, of Savannah, two daughters, Elizabeth Ryan Sullivan, of Evans, Georgia, and Nora Linda Billy Norby, of Hardeeville. He is also survived by two sisters, MaryAnn Rados and MargaretAnn Heinlein, one brother, Paddy Booton, six grandchildren, Allyson Madden, Ian Booton, Katherine Norby, Maryellen Norby, Evan Sullivan, Nolan Sullivan, and two great-grandchildren, Seth Birong, and Elijah Madden.

Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Remembrances may be made to the United States Army, Soldiers in Iraq, ACS, Supplemental Mission Activity, DMWR, Attention: Beverly Childs, 976 William H. Wilson Ave, Suite 216, Ft. Stewart, GA 31314.
